Fluid entering the meter first passes through an inlet flow straightener that reduces its turbulent flow pattern. Fluid then passes through the turbine, causing the turbine to rotate at a speed proportional to fluid velocity. As each turbine blade passes through the magnetic field generated by the meter’s magnetic pickup, an AC voltage pulse is generated. These pulses provide an output frequency that is proportional to volumetric flow.

Notice: for clean water or oil based applications, a filter is necessary if the liquid is not clean (containing solid particles, etc.)

Positive Displacement Flowmeters are precise, reliable and rugged instruments for the volumetric flow of clean liquids including Solvents, Alcohols, Fuels, Oils, additives, chemicals, food bases, paints and viscous emulsions in general industrial, petroleum and chemical applications that require high degrees of accuracy and repeatability. They operate on the Positive Displacement principle using a gear technology (oval gear, tri gear, helical gear), or a sliding/rotary vane or bi-rotor alternative. Each rotation of a gear, (or vane) is proportional to a discrete unit of volume, in turn, the speed at which the gears rotate is directly proportional to flowrate. Output sensors (e.g. Reed and Hall Effect sensors) detect the movement of the gears, thus allowing local or remote instruments to display flow total, rate of flow or facilitate batching applications.
